Gilda Marion Grossman, known affectionately as Gogo, died on January 3, 2026, at the sophisticated age of 99. Her secret to longevity? An R&D hamburger and a strong Belgian beer. Water and vegetables? "Never touch the stuff," she would say.
From serving as a nurse during World War II to managing medical buildings in West Covina until the day she passed, Gilda was fiercely independent and lived each day exactly as she wanted to. Born in Brooklyn, she moved to California in the late 1950s but kept Brooklyn in her heart through her unwavering loyalty to the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Her home was a museum dedicated to her family, Snoopy, and the enchanting trinkets that kept her company. She will be remembered for her unbridled generosity, her independence, and her turns of phrase that never failed to make her family giggle.
Her memory lives on through her family: her three children, Lori Rifkin, Susan Rifkin, and Noah Rifkin (Roberta Rifkin); her five grandchildren, Michelle Salomon (Jonathan Salomon), Joanna Gubman (Bryan Chan), Shanna Rifkin (Caleb Frankel), Isaiah Rifkin (Kayla Hammersmith), and Sascha Rifkin (Randall Pinkham); and her five great-grandchildren, Dana Salomon, Tali Salomon, Beatrix Gubman Chan, Aysa Rifkin Frankel, and Miriam Rifkin.
She loved us like a circle that goes on and has no end, and so too will we love and remember her.
