Gildardo "Gil" Martinez, age 60, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026. Born December 15, 1965, Gil lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to family and community.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Martinez; his sons, Elias, Jacob, and Noah Martinez; and his loyal dog, Kuma. Gil is also survived by his mother, Teresa Martinez; his father-in-law, Edward Luedke; and his siblings Carmen Wu (Arthur Wu), Lupe Arredondo (Manuel Arredondo), Alicia Torrence, Ramon Martinez (Christina Muniz), Gabby Almada (Dennis Almada), Mario Martinez (Yadira Martinez), and Alex Martinez. He is lovingly remembered by his sixteen nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his sister Monica Almada, his brother-in-law Ed Luedke, his mother-in-law Rochelle Luedke, and his father Ramon Martinez.
Gil was a devoted coach, mentoring young athletes through Pop Warner, high school football, and the OC Lawmen semi-professional football team. He loved cooking and barbecuing, homebrewing, camping and fishing trips to Mammoth, traveling the world with Karen and his family, and bringing people together - especially while hosting Thanksgiving and New Year's Day in his home.
Known for his infectious laugh, wise advice, and ability to make everyone feel loved, welcomed, and safe, Gil was considered a father to many. Every day with him was full of laughter. His legacy of love, generosity, and joy will live on forever.
