Gloria Pielke

2026

Gloria Pielke, 79, passed away peacefully this week after a long illness. Strong until the end, Gloria lived a full life, blessed by an abundance of joy and love.

Gloria is survived by her husband Roger. Together they shared a great love story that began when they met in Baltimore, Maryland in February of 1965. Gloria was a senior in high school and Roger was a freshman in college. Roger thought he was being clever when he first approached her at a party and told her he knew her name. Gloria responded, "Yes I know, she just told you," nodding toward her friend. Roger never got anything past her.

They married in January of 1968, and ten months later Roger Jr. arrived. Daughter Tara came along a few years later, after Roger earned a PhD. Later Roger would return the favor as Gloria earned degrees from the University of Virginia and Colorado State University.

Gloria worked as an elementary educator for many decades, putting her heart and soul into the schools and children lucky enough to sit in Mrs. Pielke's class. For Gloria, teaching was more than just a job, it was a passion.

In addition to being a wonderful partner and mom, Gloria was a delightful daughter who made her parents proud. She also leaves behind her loving younger sister Linda. Gloria shared so much happiness with her six grandkids, Harrison, Megan, Jacob, Calvin, Annabel, and Emma, who were lucky to have such a loving and present Nana.

Gloria lived a rich life. As a child she spent extended periods in Cartagena, Colombia with her mother and sister. Gloria and Roger and family lived in Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, Arizona, and of course Colorado. Gloria and Roger traveled the world and later drove all over North America in their beloved RV. Home was always Colorado, from their first stay in the 1970s to making it their permanent home about a decade later.

Gloria loved her family to be sure, but there is no doubt that a close second was the game of golf. Gloria played with passion, with a grip-it-and-rip-it swing and an ability to stare down the most challenging putts. Her family believes the first thing she is doing in Heaven is making a tee time.

We already miss Gloria, Mom, Nana, Jage. We are all lucky to have been a part of her life.
