Gregg Richard Messerschmitt born September 28, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois died January 13, 2026 at age 72 in Wimauma, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Shirley (Masters) Messerschmitt. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Dana Messerschmitt and Cori (Dan) Franks, his brother Glenn (Jacquiline) Messerschmitt, his sister Gail (Ron) Gauger and dear friend Mary Good who will miss him beyond measure. Other special relatives include nephew Ryan (Jennifer) Messerschmitt, niece Katie Wasielewski, niece Julie (Kris) Fendel, nephew Stephen (Isis) Gauger. He is also survived by many members of his life long friends he made on his college swim team.
Gregg was raised in Glenview, Illinois and graduated from Niles North High School in Skokie, Illinois where he was a member of the swim team winning many competitions. He swam competitively at Stout on the NAIA affiliated swim team. He set conference records in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly. Gregg graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout in 1975 with Bachelor Of Science degree in Industrial Technology. After graduating Gregg went on to build his career with his expertise in packaging technology and retired as the sales manager from Packaging Corporation of America in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Gregg was a life long boating, water skiing, snow skiing enthusiast. He traveled in Europe during his life skiing and cruised often to the Caribbean islands. He had many intellectual interests, an avid reader and he followed all sports. Gregg was a life long Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks Hockey and Chicago Cubs fan.
Gregg supported many charities during his lifetime including
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Joseph's Indian School Chamberlain, South Dakota, and The Wisconsin Humane Society.
Gregg spent his final weeks at his home with his Mary in a heroic and courageous health battle. Throughout his life Gregg always carried in his pocket a "Cross in My Pocket". The cross carried him and he is now at rest in the arms of the Lord.
Per Gregg's wishes no services were held. Gregg's ashes will be spread in the springtime at his Grandmother Golly's Lake House in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin where he spent happy childhood summers and was taught to swim by his mother and grandmother.
