Gregory Stephen "Greg" Oswald, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Lexington, South Carolina. Born on November 25, 1945, in Boonville, Missouri, Greg lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his profession.Greg pursued an impressive education that shaped his distinguished career in healthcare.Greg pursued an impressive education that shaped his distinguished career in healthcare. Attending St Benedict's College Atchison, KS from 1964, he earned a BS degree in December 1967. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cornell University on May 13, 1973. His commitment to advancing his expertise led him to complete the Naval School of Health Sciences Nurse Corps Anesthesia Program and The George Washington University’s Nursing Anesthesia program in August 1979. That same year, he earned a second Bachelor of Science degree from The George Washington University. On January 14, 1980, Greg achieved certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist through The Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
Greg proudly served as a Reserve Officer in the United States Navy beginning in 1973. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, he retired in 1989 after a remarkable career. As a nurse anesthetist aboard the U.S. Navy hospital ship "Repase," Greg provided care for patients undergoing surgeries and was part of the surgical team for President Reagan during the Grenada mission. His naval service took him on tours aboard aircraft carriers and to many parts of the world, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his profession and his nation.Outside of his career, Greg embraced life with enthusiasm. He enjoyed golf, travel, cooking, coaching soccer, savoring fine cigars and scotch, and sharing stories that brought joy to those around him. Above all, he cherished his family. Greg is survived by his wife, Sandra (Sandy) Miller, his children Andrew (Megan) Oswald, Christopher (Kelsey) Oswald, and Lori (Darby) Blum-Hiott, and his grandchildren Parker, Tanner, Owen, Audrey, Lily, and Alex. He is survived by his 2 sisters and 1 brother: Susan (John) James, Barbara (Curt) Coleman, and David (Lesley) Oswald. He was an uncle to numerous nieces, nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Harold Francis Oswald and mother, Velma Schubert Oswald.Greg's legacy is one of love, laughter, service, and kindness. His memory will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace.
