Hameen Salaam Muhammad

Hameen Abdul Salaam, born Barry Bruce Shepard on June 17, 1951, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, was the beloved son of James and Lennie Shepard.
Affectionately known as “Brother Hameen,” he had a deep love for Islam and valued the brotherhood. He had a keen eye for style and took pride in helping men look their best, especially when it came to suiting. Brother Hameen always wanted to see his community looking “sharp.”
Throughout his life, he was a salesman and a barber, but more importantly, he was a trusted friend who was always willing to lend a listening ear to anyone in need. His kindness, wisdom, and presence touched many lives.
Family meant so much to him, especially his sisters, Trudie amd Tracie who loved and cared for him deeply during his transition.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Kimberly Shepard; his sons, LaVaughn Blanding and Donovan Barksdale; his sisters, Trudie Brodie and Tracie Spencer (Emmanuel); his brother, Martin Street; his former wife Jeannie Shepard; and close cherished friends whom remained supportive in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin Barksdale.
Brother Hameen is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
