Hamilton L. Carmouche, age 83, of Gary, Indiana, passed away on February 1, 2026. He was born on January 11, 1943, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, to the late Hamilton A. Carmouche and Marie Nola Landry Carmouche.
Mr. Carmouche was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel Ann (Gonsoulin) Carmouche, and his daughter, Lisa Ann Carmouche. He is survived by his devoted son, Christopher L. Carmouche and his wife, Christine Mohn Carmouche; his grandson, Hamilton CLG Carmouche and his wife, Jordan (Basham) Carmouche; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Parker Ann Carmouche. He is also survived by his siblings, Dwight Carmouche, Lance Carmouche, and Kathleen Fontenot, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Hamilton Carmouche proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before pursuing his lifelong calling in the legal profession. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and went on to practice law in Gary, Indiana for more than forty years. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Gary for two decades under multiple mayoral administrations, offering steady guidance and dedicated public service.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Carmouche will be remembered for his deep love of family and his enduring passion for the law. He took particular pride in mentoring young attorneys at the outset of their careers, offering wisdom, encouragement, and a generous spirit that left a lasting impression on many within the legal community. His integrity, intellect, and commitment to justice defined both his career and his character.
Visitation will be held on February 19, 2026, at Guy and Allen Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on February 20, 2026, at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 6060 Miller Avenue.
Hamilton L. Carmouche’s legacy of service, professionalism, and devotion to family will be remembered with gratitude and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
