In memory of this man who helped many. He leaves behind two sons, their wives, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Born in Kansas. Adopted. United States Navy Veteran. Retired Police Officer. Generous. Loved the United States. Loved his family.
He was of Lutheran faith. His beloved wife, Barbara Jean (Ooyin) Friddle originally with Norweigan descent, also died in 2025 in Maryland. His daughter also preceded him in death along with his parents. He was born in Kansas. Went to Crane Technical High School in Chicago.
His family fondly referred to him as Bud. Bud was a retired Chicago Police Officer and retired official of the United States Navy. He and his wife operated several successful businesses across the U.S. and traveled the entire 50 States. They loved this country beyond measure, and they loved their family dearly.
He died in Fall of 2024. His dog, Happy, also died shortly thereafter.
His military funeral memorial service in Florida was held on December 12, 2024. Tributes can be written online here and his resting place details are as follows: https://www.vlm.cem.va.gov/HARLANHAYESFRIDDLE/a80f30
This obituary is written by his eldest grandson's wife, Dr. Ann Margaret Zelenka, PhD. I could not let it not be written. Though this man and I did not share the same faith, I met someone who I saw as a kind individual and I will never forget his kindness towards myself and his grandson Harlan, for our wedding gift in 2015 nor his generosity to my husband's family.
As a Daughter of the American Revolution and the granddaughter of two American military officials, I say
Rest in Peace Soldier.
Day is done, Gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hill,
From the sky.
All is well, Safely rest,
God is nigh.
Lastly, another obituary will be posted for his wife, Barbara, also.
Please consider donating to a U.S. Veterans Association of your choice in Bud's honor, or if you can't, visit, hug, or call a veteran in need, in his honor.
