Harley Alfred Haefs passed away on November 29, 2025, at Celebration Hospital in Kissimmee, Florida.

Harley was born on March 4, 1936, in La Crescent, Minnesota, to Margaret (Munsenberger) and Hans Haefs. He graduated from Central High School in 1954 and married Carol Bonsack on June 16, 1958. Harley served in the Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. After graduation, he applied his chemistry expertise to lab work at Heileman's Brewery for five years. Harley later joined the family business, Haefs and Sons Heavy Moving, working alongside his father and two brothers for two decades while also managing rental properties. Harley and Carol owned and operated Plaza Uniforms for over 25 years, during which Harley affectionately called himself the "maintenance man." He concluded his working career as a driver for Fleming.

Harley and Carol were happily married for 61 years and raised three children: Brian, Amy, and Jolene. The family often traveled together in their Winnebago motorhome, creating cherished memories. In retirement, Harley and Carol expanded their travels overseas, visiting numerous countries and exploring many Wonders of the Ancient World. They spent winters in Florida, where they volunteered at Give Kids The World Village in Kissimmee. Harley enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a proud owner of several Harley-Davidson bikes throughout his life. A man of deep faith, he was actively involved in First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Known for his generosity, patience, strong work ethic, and kind nature, Harley will be remembered for his dedication to family, faith, and his adventurous spirit.

Harley is survived by his son, Brian (Julie Gumz) of Onalaska, WI, and grandchildren Nick Haefs and Ashley Calloway, Alex and Ben Gumz; two daughters, Amy Hoffman of Eagan, MN, and grandchildren Claire and Ava Hoffman; and Jolene Lee of Lake Villa, IL, and grandchildren Evan, Andre, Lauren, Lucy, Oliver, and Isaac Lee. He is also survived by his brother, Melvin; sisters, Caroline Zoes and Evelyn Bone; many nieces and nephews; five great-grandchildren; and a grandson by heart, Aidan Zietlow.

Harley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; his brother, Donald; his son-in-law, Nathan Lee; and his infant grandson, John Hoffman.

A service to celebrate Harley's life will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Avenue, La Crosse, WI. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
