Harold W. Howard (Bill) 83 of Marietta, GA passed away on the 28th of January after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family when he peacefully left this earth for Heaven.
Bill was born on March 23, 1942, in Chattanooga, TN to the late Cleo Davidson and Harold C. Howard. Shortly after graduating from Chattanooga's Central High School, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard where he proudly served for six years. Bill also worked at the Chattanooga News Free Press while working part-time for Eastern Airlines. He later moved to Atlanta, GA to work full-time for Eastern where he spent a long and successful career starting as a ramp agent loading planes and working his way up to Vice President of Sales and Marketing. After his beloved Eastern went out of business, Bill started a new career at the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau as Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing where he worked closely with the Super Bowl and 1996 Olympic Games. He was also a member of multiple business organizations and received numerous awards for his professional accomplishments which are far too many to list.
Bill was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA and loved God, country, and family more than anything. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His five grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter brought him great joy. He loved the Great Smoky Mountains, hiking with his dear friends and family and greatly enjoyed Tennessee Volunteer football, reading, traveling and especially gardening. Bill lived a full, wonderful life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cleo and Harold Howard, and sister Beverly McKelvey. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Judy, sons Kip (Shannon) and Tim, grandchildren Will (27), Ben (25), Rawser (23), Reagan (21), Carmen (15), Ledger (12), one great grand-daughter, Blakely (2), brother-in-law Jerry Blancett (Frances), nephews David, Brian, Todd and Zac Blancett of Chattanooga, TN, Clay Blancett of Richmond, VA, and Dean McKelvey of Panama City, FL, along with his long-time friends Jimmy Renner of Alpharetta, GA and Jerry Bankston of Richmond, VA.
A private ceremony for friends and family will be held at a later date in Wears Valley, TN in the Great Smoky Mountains.
