Henry B Burgess Jr.

It is with heavy heart that we announce that Henry B. Burgess Jr of Greensboro, NC passed away September 26, 2025 at the age of 88 years old.

Henry, affectionately known as Sonny to his family, will be missed for his calm nature and sense of humor. Born in Dillon, South Carolina on November 12, 1936 and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, he graduated from Trenton High School in 1954. He then went into the Air Force and served until 1958. Henry worked as a freight conductor for NJ Transit before moving into a role as a train conductor with Amtrak. He spent over thirty years with Amtrak, retiring as a Supervisor. He later moved to Greensboro, NC and worked part-time for Guilford County Schools before retiring in 2008.

He is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth (McInnnis) and Henry Burgess Sr. and his sisters Depressa Smith and Barbara Burgess. He is survived by his devoted wife Jean (Johnson) and their daughters Nicole C. Burgess, Danielle D. Muldrow, and his son Derick Keaton from a previous relationship, six grandchildren Jordan A. Muldrow (Seiquest), Christiana N. Muldrow(Dontavious), Christopher J. Muldrow, Jessica S. Muldrow, Aharon Q. Abdus-Salaam and Bukhari J. Abdus-Salaam and a host of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2025 11am at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home in Greensboro, NC and the memorial service will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 11am at the same location.
