Henry Paul “Hank” Schrenker passed away in Gig Harbor, Washington on March 31, 2026, after a long, hard-fought battle against Prostate Cancer. Hank was born on June 9, 1956, in Anderson, Indiana, to the Hon. Henry Schrenker and Margaret (Hollies) Schrenker. He was the oldest of five (5) children. He grew up in Anderson, graduating from Highland High School and later from Indiana University, Bloomington.
In 1981, Hank moved to Orange County, California to attend Western State University, College of Law, where he met his future wife, Teresa (Alves). Hank and Teresa married in January 1984 and graduated from law school in June 1984. After he and Teresa passed the California Bar Exam, they both practiced civil litigation in Orange County and at one point had their own practice together.
Hank and Teresa settled in the Tustin, California area and raised two daughters, Erica Schrenker of Brooklyn, New York and Caroline Schrenker of Bend, Oregon.
Hank was a great guy! He had a playful and unrelenting sense of humor that was shared with his family and many of his close friends and inherited by both his daughters. He was loving, kind, loyal and generous to his wife, daughters, siblings, and friends. At the time of his death, Hank was still in touch with many friends from his childhood, college, his life in the Tustin area, and work colleagues.
Hank had many interests, including golf, sailing, scuba diving, recreational shooting, playing his guitars, and both competitive and recreational cycling. He met many of his long-time friends through cycling while in college, particularly a group of friends fondly known as the “Medbeats”. Over the years, Hank and his wife and daughters took many wonderful vacations throughout the United States with the Medbeats and their families. He also enjoyed many wonderful gatherings and getaways with close friends in Orange County and across the country.
After he retired with his wife to Gig Harbor, he joined the Gig Harbor Gun Club and became a range officer. He took pride in instructing members about respect for guns and gun safety.
Hank is survived by his wife, daughters, and siblings Sally Powell, Catherine Schrenker, Jim Schrenker, and sister-in-law Brandy. He is also survived by his sisters- in- law Elaine (Alves) DaValle and Lillian (Alves) Rutledge, and brother-in-law John Rutledge, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother John, his parents-in-law Lee and Teresa Alves, and his brother-in-law Dan DaValle.
A Celebration of Hank’s life will take place in Orange County, California, in July. Hank felt very strongly about supporting our veterans. His father and uncles served in WW II, and a close friend served in Vietnam. Donations in Hank’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or any other cause close to your heart.
Consider a donation, as requested by the family.
