Henry Elijah Smith Jr.

Henry E Smith Jr. was born in Gary Indiana, February 15, 1959, the only son to Lanora and Henry Smith Sr, being the youngest of three Children. He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School of Gary Indiana. After High School he became a forklift driver for the Per-Pak Containers company for 20 years during the evenings, and a bus driver for Gary Community School Corporation during the day, for 19 years. Henry’s passion was playing music as “DJ sho nuff “, he wasn’t just popular because of his talent behind the turntables, he was loved because of his spirit. As a DJ, he had a gift for reading the room and creating moments people would never forget. Music wasn’t just something he played; it was something he felt deeply and used it to bring people together. Whether it was a celebration, a community event, or a family gathering, Henry made sure the soundtrack matched the joy in the room. He was also a member of the Cobras motorcycle club for many years. Henry was a devoted Christian and member of the Gethsemane M.B Church, where he served faithfully as an usher on the door for 35 years, greeting others with warmth, kindness, and that familiar welcoming smile, under the early leadership of Rev, L Dolton Hall, to the present Leadership of Rev. Curtis A. Lee. Preceding Henry Jr. in death, his mother and father, Lenora and Henry Smith Sr, a sister Lendra, and her husband James Lane, and his aunt Jannie (John) Sickles, uncles Arthur Gray, and Moses (Justine) Gray. He leaves to mourn his beloved and devoted wife Carmelita E. Smith, one daughter Taquia Smith, three sons, Henry Elijah Smith, Elijah Ty’on Smith, and Cameron Smith, one sister Winona Ball, two stepsons Joshua C Robinson Sr, and Darius J Moore Sr. two grandchildren, Curtis Shorts Jr. and Cherish Sangster: one aunt Esther Grey, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Henry gained his wings on February 08, 2026, he said he was tired and I understood, no more pain, no more suffering, only peace within. Rest in Heaven my Love until we meet again. Carmelita.
