Herbert John Boxill

1931 - 2026

Herbert John Boxill passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 31, 2026, at the age of 94 years in The Woodlands, Texas.
Born on July 2, 1931, in New York, he was the only child of John Frederick Clarke Boxill and Anna Caroline Vett Boxill. He graduated from the New York Polytechnic Institute of Technology with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Thereafter, he was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the engineer's battalion of the 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army.
Following his service, he relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, working in industrial engineering and construction for years, which culminated with the formation of Koger & Boxill Engineering, Inc., serving as its President until his retirement. After retirement, Herb became an arbitrator with American Arbitration Association on complex and international construction cases. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Country Club and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge.
Herb cherished time spent with family and friends, a joy he carried with him as a world traveler. He was frequently recognized for his prize-winning catches as a member of the Baton Rouge and New Orleans Big Game fishing clubs. A true captain at heart, Herb found peace on the water. As a licensed captain, he successfully navigated from Canada to the east coast of the United States, down to the Bahamas and Exumas and all over the Gulf of America.
He possessed a great intellect and quick wit, and was a great husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to many. He will be sorely missed, but memories of him will be cherished.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Judie; his children, Brent Barber Boxill (Jennifer) and Ann Boxill Hamilton (Duz); and his daughter-in-law, Sheila Hines Boxill. He is also survived by his step-sons, Raymond Bryan Wright (Aprille) and Jonathan Bradley Wright (Debbie); his daughter-in-law, Sandra Savoie Wright; and his grandchildren: Jack Boxill; Bradley Boxill; Cameron, Parker, and Amelia Wright; and Mae, Braedan, and Ivy Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Caroline Boxill; his son, Stephen Michael Boxill; and his step-son, William Heard Wright, IV.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Houston Methodist Hospital, The Woodlands, Texas, for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided.
Honoring Herbert's wishes, no traditional funeral services will be held. Immediate family will gather for a private graveside memorial later this year.
