Howard H. Shanker

Howard H. Shanker passed away on November 30, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 5, 1944, he was the beloved son of the late David and Jean Shanker.

He is survived by his children, Mike Osborne Shanker and his wife, Sylke Shanker, and Halle Osborne Hall and her husband, Christopher J. Hall; and by his cherished grandchildren, Barrett William Hall and Oliver Henry Hall. Howard is also survived by his sister, Leatrice Eagle, and his brother, Roy Shanker. He maintained a lifelong relationship with his former spouse, Carol Osborne.

Howard attended Beachwood High School Class of 1962 and earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio University Class of 1966, where he also taught economics, before graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Law Class of 1969. Using his legal expertise, he developed the Human Services Plaza in Cleveland and later focused on additional real estate development throughout the Cleveland area. He was a supporter of Cleveland's rock music scene through WMMS, an enthusiast of exotic automobiles, and a dedicated advocate for the Western Reserve Land Conservancy.

Known for his integrity, generosity, and steady presence, Howard was always quick to help family, friends, and neighbors in need. In retirement, he remained deeply engaged in his community, delivering meals through Meals on Wheels and maintaining a strong and enduring interest in the well-being of local schools. An avid storyteller with a remarkable memory and deep knowledge of Cleveland's history, he shared stories that blended insight, humor, and lived experience.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Wade Chapel at Lake View Cemetery, with burial to follow.
