Howard John Silinski, 86, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Born on January 22, 1939, in Yonkers, New York, Howard was the beloved son of Anna Gabriela Brozman Silinski and John Anthony Silinski. He was raised in a devout Catholic household and received his early education at Most Holy Trinity elementary school in Yonkers. There, he also served as an altar boy at Most Holy Trinity Church—an experience that laid the foundation for a lifelong connection to his faith. He later attended Saunders Trade & Technical High School in Yonkers, where he developed the skills that would shape his professional life.

At just 17 years old, Howard began what would become a remarkable 35-year career as a draftsman with IBM. His dedication and work ethic were evident from the start, and he remained with the company throughout his entire professional life. His technical precision and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on colleagues and collaborators alike.

Howard also served honorably in the Army National Guard, with postings in New Jersey and Oklahoma. His service reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Howard's greatest joy came from spending time with family. He was a devoted father to his four sons: Howie, Michael, Tom, and Peter. A Loving husband to wives Yvonne Silinski and Jane Johnson, and close family member to cousin Claire Rucinski. Family camping at Hammonasset beach and yearly baseball trips to Shea and Yankee stadiums, are amongst the cherished memoires he made for his family. His legacy continues through nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Howard had a zest for life that touched everyone around him. Whether known as Big Howie, Peepa, or simply Howie, he had an infectious smile and a joyful spirit that made others feel welcome and uplifted. He found delight in many hobbies—assembling jigsaw puzzles; capturing moments through photography; traveling to new places; dancing gracefully across ballroom floors; enjoying all types of music; watching old westerns, and immersing himself in sports as a player, coach, and avid fan. He especially cherished Polish and Italian cuisine—a nod to both heritage and heart.

His spiritual journey continued throughout his life. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, he became an active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and later St. Matthew Catholic Church. His faith remained a guiding force through every chapter of his life.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Anna and John, wife Yvonne, and close cousins Gerry Novotny and Sonny Klapp.

He leaves behind not only a loving family but also countless friends whose lives were brightened by his warmth and humor. Whether you knew him well or met him only briefly, Howard had a way of making you smile—and that is how he will be remembered.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy to those who carry forward the light he shared so freely.
