Hugh Quarles III, born July 9, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by family, service, curiosity, and leadership.
Hugh was the son of Hugh Quarles Jr. and Katheryn Quarles and grew up in East Point, Georgia, where he built lifelong roots and friendships. He attended Georgia Military Academy and Headland High School, where he proudly ran track, reflecting the discipline and determination that would shape the rest of his life.
He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Kathleen Kolley Quarles, who survives him. Hugh was a proud father to his sons, Brian Hugh Quarles (wife Cherie) and Todd Irwin Quarles, and a deeply devoted grandfather to Davis Hugh, Lucy Skye, and Kennedy Kash, who brought him endless joy and pride.
A man committed to service; Hugh was an early member of the Metropolitan Fire Association in Atlanta. He was an avid fire buff and volunteer. He dedicated countless hours to supporting the fire service community, driven by respect for those who serve and protect. His commitment to public service also included 17 years in the Army National Guard, a chapter of his life he held with quiet pride.
Professionally, Hugh enjoyed a distinguished career in retail and fashion, working with some of the industry’s most respected names, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Marshall Field’s. Known for his exceptional taste, timeless style, and unmatched attention to detail, he brought a level of excellence and discernment that set him apart throughout his career. His work was marked by integrity, professionalism, and a genuine appreciation for all people.
Above all, Hugh will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather—steady, funny, kind, and deeply devoted to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the service he gave, and the family and friends he cherished.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
