In Loving Memory of Humaidah “Carrie” Yusof
December 7, 1964 – April 22, 2026

Humaidah “Carrie” Yusof, a cherished resident of McLean, Virginia, and a distinguished professional in the Northern Virginia real estate community, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on December 7, 1964, in Malaysia, Carrie was the daughter of the late Tuan Haji Muhammad Yusof bin Hindon and Selamah Binti Zabidin. Her life was a remarkable journey that bridged two cultures, defined by academic excellence, professional integrity, and a vibrant, joyful spirit that touched everyone she met.

Carrie was born into a prominent Malaysian family whose legacy is etched into the nation’s skyline. Her father, Muhammad Yusof, was a celebrated architect and builder who served as the Executive Manager of Engineering for major national development boards. He was renowned for constructing landmark bridges and buildings across Malaysia, establishing the Yusof family as a cornerstone of the country’s real estate and development sector. Growing up in this environment, Carrie developed a deep appreciation for the industry that would later become her lifelong career.

Seeking to further her horizons, she moved to the U.S. for college, attending Southeastern University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. She continued her academic pursuits at George Washington University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), where she was one of the very few female graduate students from Asia. She earned her Master’s in Engineering Management in 1995, and during her time as a student living in Arlington, she forged deep, lasting friendships with fellow students from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and across the United States. It was also at GWU that she met Saadeddine Taleb Ibrahimi, whom she later married; though they divorced in 2009, they shared many formative years together. Her career in the United States started at the Royal Malaysian Air Force and later served as a Manager at Telekom Malaysia.

Following in 2009, Carrie found her greatest support and professional inspiration in her best friend, Aznita “Nita” Neri. Nita was a constant pillar of strength for Carrie during this transition, providing the encouragement and guidance she needed to rebuild her life. It was Nita who championed Carrie’s entry into the real estate world, mentoring her as she transitioned into a new career. Together, they worked side-by-side for many years in the McLean and Falls Church areas, where Carrie became a highly respected Independent Real Estate Professional. Carrie was deeply grateful for the unwavering support of Nita and her dear friend Jackie, both of whom stood by her side with compassion and loyalty whenever she faced difficulties or hardships.

Carrie’s bond with Nita extended far beyond their professional lives; she was a devoted aunt to Nita’s children, Melissa and Vincent Neri, whom she loved as her own and considered her true family in the United States. A passionate dog lover, Carrie was known for her generous heart and often volunteered to watch her friends’ dogs, finding great joy in their companionship, including her love for baby Geno. She was also a beloved sister to her eleven siblings in Malaysia. Carrie was the life of every gathering, known for her love of dancing, her social nature, and her infectious sense of humor—she was always ready with a joke to bring a smile to those around her.

She had a profound love for the Washington D.C. area and Old Town Alexandria, often spending her evenings walking among the monuments and soaking in the history of her adopted home. She also loved the beach, and one of her most cherished memories was a trip to Clearwater Beach, Florida, with her dear friend and GWU alumna, Dr. Sonia Schmitt.

Carrie’s life was a testament to the strength of her heritage and the warmth of her character. Even as she entered hospice care in 2025, she maintained the quiet strength and grace that had defined her entire life.

Family and friends are invited to honor Carrie’s memory at her services tomorrow, Friday, April 24, 2026. The preparation and washing (Ghusl) will take place at the Janazah Muslim Funeral Home in Chantilly, Virginia, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The Janazah Prayer service will follow at 1:30 PM at the McLean Islamic Center in Vienna, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the GWU School of Engineering in Carrie’s name, reflecting her happy times at the university.
