Ignacio O Barcinas, Jr.
Ignacio Barcinas, Jr., known affectionately as “Joon” or “Junior” to his family and “Iggy” to his close friends, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, humor, and courage that will be cherished forever.

Born in 1977 in Tamuning, GU, Joon was the beloved son of Mina Mendiola Barcinas and Ignacio Ogo Barcinas, SR. From a young age, he naturally stepped into the role of the man of the house, caring deeply for his mother and his only sister, Maria, whom he looked up to, admired, and protected. Surrounded by a loving circle of first cousins, Joon developed an early appreciation for family bonds — the kind of connections he would carry with him, nurture, and honor throughout his life.

Joon was an accomplished student with a knack for aviation. In 1997, he graduated from the Guam Institute of Aviation Technology (GIAT) among the top five in his class and earned a place on the Dean’s List. His career began at HeliTours in Guam and later took him to Washington State, where he worked with Goodrich and Reliance before ultimately serving as a Quality Assurance Inspector at Boeing. Colleagues admired him not only for his technical expertise and precision but also for his steady demeanor, sharp intellect, and generous spirit.

Joon was a rare and brilliant soul whose warmth, humor, and curiosity made every room brighter. He carried an exceptional gift for understanding how things worked, both in the air and on the ground. Yet beyond his technical expertise, he held a deep passion for drawing and design — a creative spark that revealed the thoughtful, artistic heart behind his quick wit.

Beyond aviation, Joon had a deep love for art. He enjoyed sketching and inventing new comic characters, often bringing his imagination to life through vibrant illustrations. His nephew, Jacob, held a special place in his heart. Joon would create comic strips inspired by Jacob and illustrate stories they shared together, turning their moments into creative adventures on paper. His artistic talent and devotion to family reflected the same care and thoughtfulness that defined every aspect of his life.

Those who knew Joon knew that learning wasn’t just something he did; it was something he lived. He had endless knowledge on the most unexpected topics — from how to pick the perfect watermelon to why the duck-billed platypus had recently become his favorite animal the more he learned about it. With Joon, everyday moments became lessons, and lessons became shared joy.

Even in his final days, Joon remained a teacher, a comedian, and a comfort to those around him. He continued to fill the room with witty, clever jokes and perfectly timed quips that lifted spirits and reminded everyone of the joy he carried so naturally. His humor never faded, and neither did his desire to make others smile.

Joon leaves behind a legacy of intelligence, creativity, kindness, and light — a legacy as unforgettable as the man himself. He touched lives simply by being who he was: genuine, brilliant, endlessly curious, and beautifully human. Those fortunate enough to know him will forever cherish his lessons, his laughter, and the love he so freely gave.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the ICU team at UW Medical Center—Montlake for their exceptional care and heartfelt support throughout the 15 days in the ICU. They offer special thanks to Karin (SW), Dr. Kevin Patel, Lori Schwark (NP), Kate (Assistant Nurse Manager), and RNs Jozette, Christian, Brighid, Hannah, Erica, Madeline, along with their dedicated assistants, whose compassion made an immeasurable difference.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Bellevue, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Operation Underground Railroad (OUR Rescue) and the ASPCA, honoring Joon’s lifelong commitment to protecting both people and animals from abuse.
