Irene Cross

Irene Rachel Cross (Swartz), age 87, passed away on April 17, 2025, in Lakewood, Colorado. Born in Wisconsin, March 28, 1938, Irene lived a life filled with love, faith, and cherished moments with her family and friends.

Irene was the beloved wife of Robert "Bob" Cross, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage before his passing in late 2017. She is survived by her three sons: Rodney (Kristine) and their son Nathaniel; Randall; and Rick (May), and their daughters, Lilly and Ellie. Irene lived each of her final days deeply longing to connect with those closest to her! Irene also leaves behind her three dear sisters: Marcey "Tootie" LaFleur, Betty Swartz, and Cynthia "Cindy" Snider. Her sister Kay Strittmater (who passed just days after Irene), and Connie Blix and Jerry Swartz have also passed.

Irene also enjoyed a very close relationship with her dear friend Carol, who both proudly proclaimed to be sisters. They enjoyed their times eating out, trips in the car, long visits, shopping, and pajama parties.

A devoted Christian, Irene's faith was central to her life. She dearly loved her Lord and found great joy in spending time with others. Her unwavering belief provided comfort and strength throughout her life.

Irene had a passion for baking that brought warmth to all who knew her. Her cinnamon rolls and other homemade treats were legendary among family and friends—a testament to the love she poured into everything she did. Beyond the kitchen, Irene treasured time spent with loved ones. Whether it was sharing laughter with her sons or creating special memories with her grandchildren, these moments were the heart of her happiness.

One particularly poignant memory was Irene's final call with her sister Kay. Despite Kay's own health struggles, the two shared a deeply meaningful moment singing "Good Night Irene" together—a song that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved them both.

Mother enjoyed singing another song; "Jesus Loves Me", was one of her favorites. Just days before her passing, she sang that song one last time.

Irene's legacy is one of kindness, faith, and an enduring love for family. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
