Irene Merrillee Ann Gurin (née Reif), born on March 29, 1944, in the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, in Delray Beach, Florida. She was 81 years old.
Irene dedicated her life to education and family. She earned a master’s degree in special education from Montclair State University in New Jersey, a testament to her commitment to helping others and making a difference in the lives of students with unique needs.
She was the beloved wife of the late Ira Gurin and the cherished daughter of the late Kate and Harry Reif. Irene was also predeceased by her brother Alan.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons Robert (Lynne) and Andrew (Allison), and by her adored grandchildren: Hunter, Gryphon, Runner, Emily, and Chloe. Irene also leaves behind her devoted sisters Judy (Norman) and Linda (Larry), who shared many treasured memories with her throughout their lives.
Irene found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader who could often be found immersed in a good book. Her love for group exercise and walking reflected her vibrant spirit and dedication to staying active. She delighted in word puzzles that challenged her sharp mind and brought satisfaction with every solved clue. She also had a love of travel and exploration. Most of all, she cherished time spent with family and friends—moments filled with laughter, warmth, and connection.
Her legacy lives on through those who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to all whose lives she touched.
