Irene (Kish) Ryan (September 26, 1932, to December 1, 2025)
Irene (Kish) Ryan, passed away in Midlothian, Virginia on December 1, 2025, at the age of 93. Irene was a beloved mother to 4 children, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Irene was born in Bronx, New York on September 26, 1932, to Joseph and Catherine Kish. She grew up in the Bronx surrounded by the warm affection of her sisters Grace and Elizabeth (Betty) and their Hungarian community. Irene met her forever love, John Ryan, and they were married on September 22, 1956. Together they parented 3 children in West Nyack, New York. Side by side, hand in hand, they taught us the difference between right and wrong, encouraged us to always do better, and were consistently living examples of strength, endurance, and love. Every holiday was enjoyed with joyfully spirited extended family celebrations, sharing food, laughs, stories, and playing "Ghost." Irene worked part time as a bookkeeper at Hawvermale's Hardware Store in Nyack, New York while caring for her children. She took special joy in providing fabulous dinners with all of us gathered at the dinner table every night. And we wouldn't want to miss her fabulous paprikas chicken night! She took pride in her gardens with a particular love for lilies of the valley, salvia, and dahlias. We did our best to avoid her beautiful gardens while she allowed us to tear up the rest of the backyard playing neighborhood kickball, spud, and hide and seek well after dark.
With children grown and out on their own, John and Irene enjoyed their golden years in Fort Myers, Florida, where Irene was active on the condominium association board in between trips to the beach and the flea markets and playing bingo.
Several years after John passed, Irene moved into Chesterfield Estates in Midlothian, Virginia, where she resided for the last of her days.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved, John, and her sister, Grace, and is survived by Douglas and Kim Diamond (Jacksonville, Florida), James and Greta Ryan (Midlothian, Virginia), Diane and Walter Millett (Lords Valley, Pennsylvania), and John and Michele Ryan (Mooresville, North Carolina), numerous grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
While a part of our hearts went with her the day she left, we will continue to honor her by living lives filled with the same strength and enjoyment she brought to us.
Services were held privately by the family.
