Isabelle "Belle" Mary Lombardo (née Finlay), 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on December 17, 2025, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on February 28, 1957, in Everett, MA, Belle was the daughter of the late Charles William Finlay of Newfoundland and Catherine (O'Leary) Finlay of Cork, Ireland. Her Irish heritage was a cornerstone of her identity; she took great pride in her dual citizenship and maintained deep ties to her extended family in Cork.
Belle was a graduate of Suffolk University in Boston, where she earned her B.S.degree in Accounting. Her early career work was in public accounting, followed by work with her husband in early-stage companies.
Her greatest love story began on a Fourth of July on Cape Cod, where she met her husband, Steve, after he sat in for a few songs with a band on the piano. Following a Christmas engagement, they were married on October 10, 1983, in Somerville, MA, beginning a 42-year journey defined by devotion and shared harmony.
Music was Belle's lifelong passion and a source of great joy. Whether she was exploring classical masterpieces or reading about the history of the stage, she lived a life immersed in art. A fierce advocate for her children's education, Belle made sure that the arts were central to their upbringing. In her final hours, Belle was comforted by the voices, stories, and music played by her loved ones.
A private and gentle soul, Belle anchored her family with a quiet but unwavering strength. Her kindness and the warmth of the traditions she created were exemplified in her famous Irish Soda Bread—a St. Patrick's Day staple that friends and family eagerly anticipated each year.
Belle is survived by her husband, Steven James Lombardo; her daughter, Rose Sharon Lombardo; her son, Edward James Lombardo, his wife Katie, and their daughter Lily; her siblings, Cathy Finlay, Rose Finlay, and Charlie Finlay; and her extended family in Ireland.
In accordance with Belle's wishes, instead of funeral services, her family honored her with a mass on Christmas Eve at a small community church in New York. The family plans to host a memorial gathering in celebration of her life in the summer of 2026.
