Isabelle Sosa, born August 20, 1920, passed away peacefully at the age of 105 on December 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, and a life devoted to God.
Isabelle was the youngest of eight siblings of Antonio S. Lopez and Dolores Escalante, Arizona pioneers who owned and operated the K-W Ranch. As a young girl, she spent summers on the ranch roping, branding, and helping care for the cattle. Though small in stature at just 4'10", she was proud of her strength and resilience, often recalling that she could bring down a calf on her own.
At the center of Isabelle's life was her deep and unwavering love of God. A devoted Catholic, she let her faith guide how she lived and loved. She was a woman of prayer, humility, and devotion. She was a member of the St. Matthew's Sodality and of the 3rd Order of Franciscans. Her faithful prayers were a steady source of strength for her family, friends, and were felt across generations. Isabelle was the matriarch of her family, a constant and loving presence across generations of family, friends, and extended family alike. Her liveliness, energy, and humor were part of her personality. Anyone who entered her home was met with warmth and acceptance. The meals she would make for family and friends were delicious and memorable.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, David Sosa; her daughter, Bertha Lopez; her grandsons, Richard Anthony Lopez and Robert G. Ruiz; and all of her siblings. She was the beloved mother of David Sosa and Geraldine Sosa. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandsons Joseph Ruiz, Danny Ruiz, Robert Ruiz, Michael Ruiz, Richard Lopez, and to her granddaughter Rachel Molina.
She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Tyree Ferguson, Daniel David Ruiz II, Desiree Ruiz, Christopher Ruiz, Roman Ruiz, Nicolas Ruiz, Hailey Ruiz, Brianna Lopez, Jacob Ramirez, and Norah Ramirez. She was a loving great-great-grandmother to Daniel David Ruiz III, Aiden Perez, Isabella Perez, Elias Perez, Roman Ruiz, Lucas Ruiz, and numerous generations of nieces and nephews.
Isabelle will be remembered for her humor, generosity, faith, devotion to God, and the prayers that strengthened her family. Her life was one of love, humility, and quiet strength. Her legacy lives on through her faith and the family she loved.
Rosary, viewing, and mass will be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 320 N. 20th Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85009, followed by burial services at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 9925 W Thomas Rd., Avondale, AZ 85392
