IVA LOUISE GRIFFIN

Iva Louise Griffin departed this life peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, in Manassas, VA. Iva was born on August 15, 1933, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late William and Lillie Jane (Gilmer) Groves.
She attended Dudley High School, where she played clarinet in the school band. Upon graduation in 1951, she met and married Edwin Dennis Griffin and moved to Jersey City, NJ. To this union four children were born.
Iva followed her husband's ministry with the Lutheran Church in America (LCA, a predecessor of the ELCA) from Jersey City to Omaha, NE to Philadelphia, PA. Upon his retirement they moved back to Jersey City for several years before returning south; first to Manassas, VA and then Greensboro, NC.
She was employed by Emerson Radio (Jersey City), Colgate-Palmolive (Jersey City), Together, Inc. (Omaha), and Mount Calvary Sunbeam Daycare (Manassas).
Iva had many interests. She was a past matron of the Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Newark, NJ; as well as a member of Heroines of Jericho and Daughters of the Sphinx. She enjoyed music, dancing, cooking, reading, bowling, travel, Chinese food, pizza (and the occasional beer), card parties (especially Bid Whist) and spending time with friends and loved ones. She was Mom, Aunt Iva, and Granny to the many that loved her.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Dennis Griffin; her daughter, Cheryl Yvonne Griffin; granddaughters Tawn Chantel Griffin and Kysten Saeedah Raleigh; brothers Willis, Lawrence and James Groves, and sister Sarah Dunmore.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Iva Denise Griffin of Manassas, VA; Lisa Kim (Rodney) Aycox of Jersey City, NJ, and son Allen Lethaniel Griffin of Los Angeles, CA. Grandchildren Torin Griffin, Rodney, Jr. and Lily C. Aycox, Allen William Mitchell and Iva Kristine Griffin; and great-grandchildren Maliyah Johnson, Amerie Harris, Ginna and William Mitchell; beloved friend since childhood, Sadie Byrd McConnell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
