J. Raymond Pearson, Sr., late of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away on January 2, 2026 at the age of eighty-seven.
Born in West Warwick, Rhode Island to the late Mary Ellen (Corr) and late John O. Pearson, he lived most of his life in Warwick and West Warwick, with stints in North Kingstown and Cumberland as well. "Ray" was known to live life on his own terms.
At the age of nine, he'd lost his mother to cancer. The oldest of six siblings, Ray took on a role of de facto head of the household after her death. He went on to graduate from West Warwick High School in 1956, and studied at the University of Rhode Island and also Community College of Rhode Island and New England Institute of Technology.
He married Sandra D. Lawrence in 1959 and they went on to have three sons: J. Raymond Jr., Richard, and Robert. Ray and Sandra divorced in 1978, but they remained lifelong friends.
Ray was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company at their Rhode Island Mall location for at least ten years beginning in the 1960s. Starting out in a management position, he hit his stride when he moved over to the HVAC department and blossomed in the HVAC service trade. This led him to employment at National Refrigeration Company, working for many years with his close friend Jack King. As Ray moved into his retirement years, he helped mentor new trainees in the company, which was greatly rewarding all around.
Additionally, Ray engaged sporadically in real estate sales as a "side gig".
He enjoyed boating, reading, and tinkering. Ray's mind never ceased to be active, even in his later years.
Ray is survived by his sisters Arlene Reil of Florida and Jane Mooney of West Warwick, and his brother James (Barbara) of Warwick, his sons J. Raymond Pearson, Jr. (Dorene) of North Kingstown, Richard Pearson of West Warwick, and Robert (Raylle) Pearson of Warwick, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth and Ronald.
A memorial will be held at St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, Rhode Island on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11 am.
