Jack David McPhie, known as JD, age 55, passed away January 23, 2026 in Niceville, Florida. He was born on March 6th, 1970, in Tooele, Utah. Due to his family's Air Force assignments, JD spent much of his childhood moving and experiencing life in many different places.
JD graduated from Niceville High School in Florida, in1988. During his school years, he was actively involved in baseball, scouts, cross-country running and Air Force ROTC.
Following high school, JD enlisted in the Army, completing Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to the 10th Mountain Light Infantry Division in upstate New York, an elite unit. JD was always deeply proud of his service and of being a veteran.
JD later returned to Utah, where his parents and most of his siblings lived. He worked at the Salt Lake City International Airport and LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he was employed for over 20 years. JD was known for his caring nature, helpful service and genuine love for the people he served. In 2016 he returned to live in Niceville, Florida.
From an early age, JD developed a deep love for the outdoors, which became a defining part of his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, pursuits that brought him great joy and peace. His passion for fishing took him from the rivers and streams of the Mountain West to the shores of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Choctawhatchee Bay and his favorite spot on the Okaloosa Island Pier. JD's willingness to share his knowledge and teach others will long be fondly remembered by family and many friends.
JD is survived by his parents, Jack Evan and Tina McPhie, of Providence, Utah; his brothers: Jason (Vanessa) McPhie, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Matthew (Tricia) McPhie, of Billings, Montana; Jeffrey (Angie) McPhie, of Logan Utah. Sisters; Amy (McPhie) and Cache Decker, of Pleasant Grove, Utah and Jennifer McPhie of Smithfield, Utah, fifteen nieces and nephews, cousins, and aunts and uncles.
The family is grateful for the celebration of life honoring JD, on February 15th, 2026, at the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he has many treasured friends.
A celebration of life will also be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at the Vode Event Center, 2888 W 4700 S, Taylorsville, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that monetary donations be made to a Veteran charity of your choice, in honor of JD and his military service.
