Jacqueline (Jackie) Marie Coleman

Jackie Coleman (née Savoie) died on the afternoon of December 7, 2025. In a time when there were few options for women beyond teaching, nursing, or marriage, she literally carved her own trail. If you needed to know how to bake bread or taxidermy a bear, she was the one you called. She had practical advice for homemaking, lovemaking and caretaking. Jackie was a renowned artist who dabbled in every medium that interested her and was often found deep in the bush, looking at plants and bugs.

She gathered people to her like we were all bonded ducklings, and she generously shared her stories, opinions and life with us all. She was fiercely protective of the people in her life, and she was a diligent and faithful friend. If you were one of hers, you knew it. She didn't suffer fools. She told you what was on her mind but could also hear your side of the story.

Jackie was born in 1942 in Windsor, Ontario, to Freda Savoie (née Schmitz) of Anaheim, Saskatchewan. She was raised in Anaheim, and moved with her family to Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, in the 1950s, where she lived after her marriage until her death. After completing high school, Jackie worked at the Clearwater Sanitorium and then travelled to Winnipeg to become a nurse practitioner. Eventually, she returned to Hudson Bay, where she met and eventually married Morley Coleman.

She and Morley bought land outside of Hudson Bay where they raised their two girls and as many animals as she could convince Morley they needed. They hunted, fished, skidooed, curled, and camped all over Saskatchewan and Manitoba. She loved travelling in Western Canada.

She is survived by her brother, Perry Savoie, and her sister, Sharon Jensen (née Savoie); her daughters, Karly (Andy, Griselda, and Souris) and Marly (George and Stella); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be a celebration of life on June 20, 2026, at Morley and Jackie's farm in Hudson Bay.
