James Bertram Biel, age 53, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on December 10, 2025.
James was a creative and joyful soul who expressed himself through many passions. He loved cooking, drawing, painting, gardening, singing and playing games. He was also an active and committed member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found fellowship, purpose, and the opportunity to support others. His creativity, warmth, and playful spirit brought laughter and light to those around him, and he will be remembered for the joy he shared so freely.
James is survived by his loving mother, Susan Biel; his sister, Jennifer Dow, and her family—Brian, Ella, and Charlotte; and his brother, Chad Biel, and his family—Andrea, Alanna, and Elliot. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick E. Biel.
A memorial service to celebrate James’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, located at 8300 Richmond Road, Toano, Virginia 23168. A reception will be held immediately after the service. All are welcomed!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hickory Neck Episcopal Church.
