James Bevan Bond

1936 - 2026

James Bevan Bond passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Victoria BC, with his beloved wife Barbara and his daughters by his side. Known to most as Jim, and exclusively to Barbara as Jimmy, he was a devoted husband, and a loving father to Rima, Desiree, and Roxanne. He was a steady, generous presence to everyone who crossed his path. He taught his daughters by example to be honest, ethical and reliable.

Born in Kenora, Ontario, Jim spent much of his youth moving frequently and attending boarding school; experiences that helped shape his resilience, independence, and quiet sense of humor.

Jim loved adventure and struggled mightily with the idea of sitting still. Over the years, this led him to live and work across Canada, New Zealand, and Guyana. His many careers included owning a bar, a bakery, a construction company, a knife sharpening business and even a gold mining company in the Guyanese jungle... where fishing, snakes, and very large "rats" featured prominently in his stories.

He met Barbara in Whitehorse, Yukon, in what he called love at first sight. They were married for 65 years this February.

He loved order, a clean house, a good steak, a back scratch, and telling bad jokes... usually laughing at them before anyone else could. He had fun with the name James Bond often referring to himself as 007 and a half.

He was adored by children, mesmerized by technology (which rarely returned the affection), and forever grateful for IT help from his son-in-law Wayne, "the son he never had."

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Rima (Garnet), Desiree (Wayne), and Roxanne; grandchildren Gordie (Emily), Andrea (James), Sienna, and Sage; three great grandchildren, Presley, Faron and James; and many nieces and nephews including Matt (Susan) who made special trips to visit often.

He was predeceased by his brother Dick, sisters Dennice and Gwen, and by Moneypenny and M.

Jim lived generously, laughed easily, and left everything a little better than he found it.
