James Marshall Boswell, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 3, 2025. He was born on October 20, 1937, in Denton, Texas, where he spent his childhood and formative years. As a young man, James distinguished himself as a natural leader—serving as class president, earning membership in the National Honor Society, and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout early in life.
He graduated from Seminole High School in 1956 and later pursued higher education at Texas Tech, Hardin-Simmons, and the University of Oklahoma. During his college years, James served in the Baptist Student Union, reflecting his strong faith and sense of community. He later earned his Doctorate of Education from the University of North Texas, a testament to his lifelong passion for learning and teaching.
That same passion shaped his career. James devoted his professional life to education, teaching geography and mathematics at both the university and high school levels. His work took him across Oklahoma and Texas, serving in communities such as Rotan, Edmond, Norman, Grapevine, Sanger, and Denton.
James was known for being thoughtful, meticulous, and deliberate in all that he did. He was persistent in his unwavering integrity and devotion to his family. He was a devout Christian man whose faith guided his life, and he deeply loved his wife, Mary - affectionately known as “Budger”- with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.
One of his greatest joys was teaching all three of his children in high school Algebra and Geometry—a rare and special privilege. Known affectionately as "Dr. Boz" at Denton High School, James earned a reputation as a clear and engaging teacher. Students loved the welcoming atmosphere of his classroom, where finishing work early meant a chance to play chess. Those with a mischievous streak quickly found themselves promoted to the VIP front row or the coveted seat next to his desk—a gentle reminder of his firm but good-humored approach to discipline.
James loved reading, studying biblical prophecy, and researching health and nutrition. He also enjoyed working outdoors - creating beautiful landscapes in his yard and garden. Other hobbies of his were walking, swimming, and playing chess.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Marshall Boswell and Edna Beatrice (Haren) Boswell, and his son, Stanley Marshall Boswell. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary LaNelle (Evans) Boswell of Grapevine; son Steven Brent Boswell and wife Heather Roach Boswell of Aubrey; daughter Alicia Boswell Knapp and husband Darren James Knapp of Keller; and five cherished grandchildren: Avri Michelle Boswell, Corinne Elizabeth Knapp, Noelle Marie Knapp, Marshall John Knapp, and Delta Jane Knapp.
