James J Botten, aged 87, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, in Scottsdale, AZ surrounded by his family. Born on February 10, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota,
Jim attended the University of Minnesota where he joined a fraternity and played on the University Baseball team. Jim began his career in Insurance and was one of the youngest general agents in the industry prior to establishing the J Botten Co. "Botts" as he was known by many, was a competitive baseball player, celebrated by his induction into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball and Softball Halls of Fame as well as the Arizona Men's Senior Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2025. His passion for the sport was matched by his love for riding his Harley Davidson to games and attending motorcycle rallies across the nation including multiple trips to Sturgis Rally. He was an avid reader and a lifelong Yankees fan.
His commitment to his faith and community was evident by his involvement in the church and as a member of The Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his father Jay, mother Isabelle and brother Kenneth. He is survived by his beloved wife, Holly, and devoted daughter, Kristen.
A service to celebrate James's life will be held on May 14th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church at 36811 N Pima Rd, Carefree, AZ . He will be laid to rest at St Mary's Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.
