James Joseph Brick, of Danbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, surrounded by love. He was born on March 30, 1947, in Buffalo, New York, and grew up in Maywood, New Jersey, one of six children.
James attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and Columbia Teachers College. He began his career as a third-grade teacher, a role that reflected his patience, warmth, and belief in people. He later went on to open J. Brick & Co. Contracting, which grew into a highly successful business; a reflection of his extraordinary talent as a carpenter. James took immense pride in his craft and was known for his skill, integrity, and attention to detail.
Beyond his work, James was a gifted artist. In his spare time, he created beautiful pieces in woodworking and stained glass, pouring creativity and care into everything he made. Whether building, teaching, or creating, he brought intention and love into all he did.
Above all else, James was the most genuine, kind, selfless, and caring human being his family has ever known. His greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail, and his five daughters, who were the pride of his life:
Christine, married to Erik, and their son Jacob;
Beth, married to John, and their children Halle, Kaleigh, and Luc;
Sara, married to Michael, and their children Samuel, Mason, and Gemma;
Kate, married to Donald, and their daughters Farrah, Hunter and Lexie;
and Leigh, married to Alfred, and their sons Everett and Bode.
He is also survived by his devoted dog, Oliver, whom he loved immensely.
James leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, creativity, and quiet strength. His family will carry him with them always—loving him more than the air can hold.

A wake will be held on Thursday, January 29 at Cargain Funeral Home in Carmel. A service will follow on Friday morning at Cargain Funeral Home, with burial at Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel.
