James E. Cannon

James Earl Cannon, age 61, was born on May 19, 1964, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Billy E. Cannon, Sr and Jennie L Davis. He was born and raised in Gary, where he attended local elementary and secondary schools and proudly graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1983.
James believed in God and accepted Christ at an early age. He lived a good and faithful life until his health declined, and in the late hours of Friday, February 13, 2026, God called him home.
James is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his beloved brother, Gregory L. Cannon.
A lifelong resident of Gary's West Side, James grew up on Hamlin Street, where he developed many lifelong friendships that became his extended family. Affectionately known throughout the neighborhood as "Chief," he was always willing to help anyone in need, no matter the circumstance. His kindness, generosity, and deep sense of community left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
James lived and worked in Chicago, IL and later in the Minneapolis-St Paul, MN area, and he resided in St Paul until his passing.
James leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted big brother, Billy E. Cannon of Gary, IN and his loving younger and only sister, Cordia (Rodney) Bolden and two cherished nieces, Cierra and Arianna Bolden of Harvest, AL, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Homegoing Services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026. Wake 9:00a.m. Funeral 11:00a.m. at Freeman Temple Church Of God In Christ, 715 E. 45th Ave., Gary, IN. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery, 1518 E Elm Street, Griffith, IN 46319.
