James Alan Chumley, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 25, 2026 in Cedar Park, Texas. Jim was born on September 6, 1945 in Tazewell, Tennessee to Margaret Erligne Payne and William Giffin Chumley. Growing up in the hills of east Tennessee, Jim moved to Key West, Florida, then to Cocoa, Florida, graduating from Cocoa High School in 1963. He graduated from Brevard Junior College in Cocoa and Florida Technological University (now University of Central Florida) in its charter class in 1971. Drafted into the service in 1967, Jim was stationed in Hohenfels, Germany, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning home, Jim married Chrystene Sawyer in Cocoa, Florida in 1970. After college, he worked for GTE in sales and product management, finishing his career at its world headquarters in Irving, Texas.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed reading, playing Bridge, flying single-engine aircraft, playing the latest available version of Fallout, hugging his grandkids, and watching a good shoot-em-up.

Committal will take place at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas--time and date to be determined.
