James Floyd Custer, known to most as "Floyd", 73, of Tampa, FL, passed away on January 10, 2026 from an unexpected heart attack. Born in 1952, James was a lifelong Florida resident who spent his life being close to family and friends. He was a family man to the core, an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Floyd was a devoted husband to Rachel Custer, with whom he just celebrated 42 years of marriage. He was a loving father to his five children; Craig Custer (Bobbie Jo Custer), James Custer (Lisa Custer), Jamie Custer, Elizabeth Custer and Christopher Custer (Cathy Besaw), a grandfather to his four grandchildren; Kyle Custer (Annie Custer), Wyatt Rodgers (Harmony Diaz), Tanner Custer (Cari Hiett) and Isaac Custer, and most recently, a great-grandfather to Haisley Custer.
As the eldest of eight, Floyd also leaves behind his siblings, Marydel Gully (Steve), Susan Battle (Tom), Martha Custer (Guy), Michael Custer (AJ), Bobby Custer (Rosemary), Billy Custer (Reba) and Maggie Daniels (Steve), and countless nieces and nephews.
James Floyd Custer was truly one of a kind. He was profoundly loved, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. A Celebration of Life will be held next month with details to follow.
