James Carl (Jim) Daily, died peacefully on January 16, 2026 after a brief illness. He was surrounded in love by his children, beautiful wife Cathy, and the unwavering affection of all who knew him.
Jim was born on May 25, 1948 in Erie, PA to Robert and Marion Daily. Known to his parents and family as "Jimmy," he was born with a twinkle in his blue-green eyes that burned bright for seventy-seven years.
Jim's enjoyment of life and love of family flourished throughout all his days. His intellectual drive led him to degrees from Fairfield University and the University of Scranton. Jim met his sweetheart, Cathy Daily (née Stall) in February of 1970. Married June 26, 1971, Jim and Cathy lived in Paris, Brooklyn, and then moved to Redding, Connecticut, where they raised their family.
Jim was father to Mary Catherine Daily (Katie) and James Peter Daily (Jimmy). Known to many as "Dad Daily" and "Papa Daily," Jim was a father to his kids' friends, the man who could always be relied on for advice or a kind ear, and keeper of the greatest of puns and Dad jokes. We wanted to put one in here, but that seemed like a grave mistake.
He was enduringly brilliant, curious, and present. He co-founded Lack & Daily, a premiere Executive Search Firm, and in retirement, served on the Board of the Stockbridge Library. Jim and Cathy always maintained a home in the Berkshires and moved here full-time twenty-five years ago to immerse themselves in the culture and community that always filled them with joy.
Jim played banjo and guitar (Charlie never did get off the MTA). He loved grilling and cooking for his family and friends (His "Papa ham" will never be replicated). He adored Tanglewood, and Broadway, and the Daily house was forever full of music of every genre and era. Jim deeply loved and was "Papa" to his five grandchildren: Jack, Lucas, Avery, Miles, and Jonas, all of whom lit up his world and will continue to hold his spirit. Jim is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Annabella, son-in-law, Daryl, and his four sisters, one brother, and their incredible families. Jim and Cathy have always been extraordinary at turning friendship into family, creating an ever-growing circle of people who belonged in every season of life. We know that same beautiful circle holds the grief of this loss and will continue to carry Jim's legacy of acceptance and affection.
We immensely love and miss you, Jim Daily. Your absence is wide, but so is what remains because of the man you were and the life you lived. May you forever watch over us and infuse our lives with your humor, compassion, and love.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Stockbridge Library Association - 46 Main Street - Stockbridge, MA - 01262. A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held in the spring of 2026.
