James Ellison

James (Sunny Jim) L. Ellison passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2026, at the age of 60.

We are all devastated by this huge loss, and he will be forever missed. He was born with a naturally sweet and kind soul, a heart of gold, a big smile for everyone he met, and was always a joy to be around. He grew into a cantankerous arbitrator, always ready for a spirited discussion, whether you were or not.

James spent his younger years surrounded by nature. Whether he was acting as a ski instructor, salmon fishing, guiding people through white rapids, or simply marveling at a sunset, he was always at peace. He began his career as a licensed healthcare worker at his father's business and continued in the field for 45 years. He also worked part-time as a flagger, a school bus driver, and volunteered at homeless shelters.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Dr. Lawrence Ellison, and brother, Dr. Thomas (Tommy) Ellison. As well as his mother, Ruth Ellison, who passed on July 30, 2024. He missed her dearly every single day since then.

James is survived by his brother Mark, sister Leslie, and his faithful companion, a Cane Corso named Maxine. He will be loved and missed by the many friends he made throughout his life and during his career as a licensed optician in the states of Alaska and Washington.

We can all find solace knowing he's been reunited with his mom. What a joyous reunion it must have been for them both.
