James "Jim" Fritz, 74, of Roselle, Illinois, passed away on September 30, 2025 from interstital pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on February 10, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois Jim lived a multifaceted life that embraced music, family, and a variety of interests.
Jim is survived by Mary, his devoted wife of 48 years. Together they built a life and raised four children: Jessica (Brian) Smith, Adam, John (Charles Kleiss), and Angela (Chris) Hines.
He was a delighted grandfather to Benjamin and Harrison Smith and Asher Hines.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothea Fritz, and his brother Jack Fritz.
A lifelong lover of music, Jim's talents as both a drummer and guitarist brought joy to many. His passion extended beyond band member, and performances—he was also the owner of Spin n Wheel Mobile DJ Service.
Through this venture, he entertained at countless gatherings with his signature energy and enthusiasm. Jim's love for rock 'n' roll knew no bounds. He was an avid collector of memorabilia that spanned decades of musical history. From vinyl albums and cassette tapes, CD's, even autographed photos and concert tickets, his collection reflected a deep appreciation for the artists who created the sounds that consistently influenced his life.
Beyond music, Jim found joy in cultivating beauty through gardening. Whether tending to vegetables or nurturing flowers and plants, he had a green thumb and a patient heart for nature, how its cycles worked, and all things that grew. He also enjoyed reading and challenging himself with crossword puzzles—quiet pursuits that balanced his more people oriented and activities.
Another area of continuing interest was volunteering. He felt drawn to find ways to give back to community programs in general. Jim volunteered at the Roselle Library and more regularly, at the Roselle Food Pantry. He truly enjoyed all the people he met there and was inspired by their commitment and team spirit. He often talked about how rewarding the hard work was and loved to entertain his fellow volunteers with his endless and unforgetably corny jokes!
Recently, as Jim faced health challenges, he turned inward spiritually. During his illness, and the decline of his health, he sought a relationship with the Lord. Prayer and seeking God became important as he navigated uncertainty with courage. In time, Jim accepted Jesus as his Savior, entrusting Him with the days he had left and requesting eternity with Him.
With a willingness to bring energy to music, Jim was happy behind a drum kit or at work in the DJ booth .
Often he could be found sharing stories on favorite musicians, as well as tips on gardening. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experiences when the opportunities were presented or when questions were asked.
Jim will be remembered for the music he cherished, the family he loved and the gardens he grew. As a family, we are grateful for the many memories, and the peace he found in his final days.
His memory will live on in those he loved, who knew him best, and in others whose paths he crossed.
