James Wallis Hanning

James (Jim) Hanning, aged 83, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in Duncan, BC, in the arms of his loving wife of 60 years, Ellen, and their two children. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, known for his infectious laughter and wisdom, and will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ellen; children, Douglas (Ingrid) and Deborah (Jamie); his grandchildren, Bradley, Megan, Jace and Dari; sister Nancy; sisters-in-law, Patricia and Catherine; brother-in-law Charlie; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in Toronto, Ontario, where he met the love of his life, Ellen in his early 20's. The two raised their family in Vancouver and then moved back to Toronto before finally retiring to the West Coast to be close to their children. Jim enjoyed adventure, travel, golf, good food and a scotch.
