James Hansut, 84, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away on November 12, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. Born on June 10, 1941, in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, Jim lived a life marked by dedication—to his family, his craft, and his country.
Jim proudly served as a pilot in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His military service was a source of deep pride and shaped the values he carried throughout his life—honor, loyalty, and a steadfast commitment to those around him.
After his service, Jim returned to Pennsylvania where he built a successful career owning and operating his own building construction company. He was known for his exceptional craftsmanship and took great pride in the work he completed both in Pennsylvania and later in Florida. Working with his hands brought him joy, and he approached each project with care and integrity.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Leanne Hansut; his sister Tammie Gursky and her husband Donald Gursky of Sarasota, FL; daughter Tanya DePastino of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren Anna DePastino Fisher, Shae DePastino, and Ben DePastino of Peachtree City, GA; daughter Amy DePastino of Sarasota, FL and her husband Joe DePastino; and grandchildren Rocco DePastino and Gia DePastino of Sarasota, FL.
He was preceded in death by his mother Tessie Sulick Hansut; James A. Hansut of Englewood, FL; his sister Barbara Greene; and brother-in-law Wayne Greene of Sarasota, FL.
Jim found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved watching baseball games and cheering on Penn State football. Time spent at the beach or fishing with his father remained among his most cherished memories. Whether attending a game or relaxing by the ocean with family and friends, Jim embraced each moment with warmth and gratitude.
Those who knew Jim will remember him for his generous spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering love for those closest to him. His presence brought comfort and joy to many lives, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
A celebration of life will be held after the new year to honor Jim's memory and the many moments he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
