James “Jim” Ray Hosack, 77, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025 at the VA Medical Center in West Haven. He was born on September 26, 1948 in Miami, Florida to the late Edgar R. Hosack, Sr. and Florence C. Hosack.

Growing up in South Florida, Jim was the second youngest of six children. Jim graduated from Edison High School, where he excelled in baseball as a pitcher and second baseman.

Jim proudly served his country in the US Army, answering his call to service during the 1969 Draft. He deployed to South Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry from late 1970-1971, and was awarded numerous accolades for his combat experience, including a Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal. Although he never wanted attention for his service, we are honored to be able to recognize the sacrifices he made at such a young age and uncertain time.

After returning home from Vietnam, Jim followed in his father and grandfather’s footsteps to become a journeyman electrician, member of Local Union #349 in Miami, Florida. He then spent 25 years with Bechtel Engineering & Construction in various positions and projects around the United States, predominantly in nuclear power and telecommunications. Upon his retirement in 2014, he worked part-time jobs where he could do his favorite things: care for others and hear their stories.

In recent years, amidst battling significant health problems, Jim refused to ever let his condition inhibit his love for life and others. Whether it be a trip to his favorite spot of Kennebunk, Maine or a random day trip around New England, he always was there with a smile. Jim was an avid follower of UConn athletics, and loved being a women’s basketball super-fan. He was a daily regular at the Glastonbury Senior Center, where he loved meeting for lunch and playing bingo with all of his close friends, whom we know will miss him dearly.

He was predeceased by his brothers Edgar Hosack Jr. , Richard “Timothy” Hosack, Robert Hosack and John Hosack, as well as father-in-law Donald E. Lamont.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, and their children, Spencer J. Hosack (Morgan), Cameron R. Hosack; daughter, Heather R. Dill (Robert); two grandchildren, James L. Dill and Christian L. Dill; sister, Betty Ann Dunlop; mother-in-law, Elizabeth R. Lamont; brother-in-law Douglas Lamont; and sisters-in-law, Anita Hosack, Patricia Hosack, and Mary Hosack. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other extended family whom he loved dearly.

Jim will be remembered for his humor, quick wit, and his deep care and admiration for his family. We know he will continue to look down and protect us all in the years to come.

We are forever grateful for the care and support that Jim, and our family, received from his extensive team of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals at the West Haven VA Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, we ask to please consider supporting the Fisher House Foundation in Jim’s name, found here: www.fisherhouse.org; or simply stopping to thank a veteran.

A private ceremony with military honors will be arranged, and a celebration of life for friends and family will be coordinated for a later date.
