James Joseph “Jim” Izzo, 86, of Westport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.
Jim was the proud son of James and Angelina Izzo, who immigrated to the United States from Caserta and Formicola, Italy. He carried his Italian heritage with great pride throughout his life. Warm and outgoing, Jim was friendly to everyone he met and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He never met a stranger—his first question to many was often, “Are you Italian?”—and he had a gift for striking up a conversation wherever he went.
Jim loved his traditions. Each fall he made homemade wine with his father, a tradition he continued for many years, and he never lost his appreciation for a good glass of red. In the summer, he could be found for hours in his garden, carefully tending to his vegetables—especially his beloved tomatoes. A talented craftsman, Jim spent many winters in his basement workshop building the furniture that filled his home.
Jim had a deep love for music, especially Frank Sinatra, Hank Williams Sr. and classic country. He cherished his guitar and spent many evenings reading his songbooks and trying to play his favorites.
An electrician by trade for more than 50 years, Jim took great pride in his work and in providing for his family. He was a lifelong parishioner of Assumption Church in Westport, where his faith and community remained important parts of his life.
Above all, Jim loved his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 65 years, Judy, who was truly the love of his life. He is survived by his children: James, Steven (Tricia), Michael, Christine (Christopher) D’Orso, and Mary (Mark) Thawley. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Nickolas (Sophia) Izzo, Dylan Izzo, Harrison (Hannah) D’Orso, Alex (Morgan) D’Orso, Benjamin Thawley, Sam Thawley, and Sophie Thawley, and a cherished great-grandfather to his precious great-granddaughter, Iliana Izzo.
Jim was one of 13 siblings. He is survived by his brothers Anthony (Annette) and Bernard, and sisters Frances (Cookie) and Lee Schaefer. He was predeceased by Salvatore, Joseph, Johnny, Antoinette Capodicci , Terri Chariot , Mary Lehn, Sarah Moran, and Rosie Durling. He also leaves many nieces and nephews behind as well.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his craftsmanship, and the deep love he had for his family, heritage, and traditions. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Salute Jim!
Funeral arrangements and services will be announced by the family.
