James Leroy Jackson (Jim)
March 19, 1941 - April 4, 2026
James Leroy Jackson, known to most as Jim, 85, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Sun City West, Arizona, surrounded by his son James, his daughter Kimberlee, and his beloved wife, Kathy, who held him close until the very end.
Born on March 19, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, Jim was a Denver man through and through. The son of Flossie and James August Jackson, who made their way from Iowa to Colorado to build a life, he was shaped by their example of hard work, humility, and quiet integrity. Those values stayed with him throughout his life and were reflected in both his work and his relationships.
He attended Colorado State University, where he became a proud member of Sigma Chi, a brotherhood he valued deeply and maintained for the rest of his life.
Jim built his professional life around numbers and people, spending decades as a trusted accountant who genuinely cared about those he served. To his clients, he was more than just a tax preparer; he was a steady presence, a sounding board, and someone they knew they could rely on. He had a natural warmth, an easy honesty, and a way of making people feel comfortable and understood. On the golf course, however, all bets were off.
He married his first wife, Kathlyn, and together they raised two children, Kimberlee and James. Later in life, he found his perfect partner in Kathy, with whom he shared more than 30 deeply happy years. Together they built a warm, welcoming home and a blended family that became one of the great joys of his life.
In his later years, Jim was also united with a daughter he had not previously known, Judy, whose arrival became one of the most meaningful chapters of his life. Their relationship continued to grow and deepen over time and distance, bringing him a profound sense of connection and completion.
Jim was no stranger to adversity. A bold entrepreneurial venture into the furniture business tested him deeply in his middle years, but he met it the way he met everything, with quiet resilience and without bitterness. He returned to the work and the people he loved, rebuilding his tax practice and continuing forward with steady determination.
In retirement, golf became his great passion, but it was not his only one. He was a devoted Denver Broncos fan and especially cherished the time spent watching games with his son, a tradition that became its own kind of ritual and memory. What had once been a casual weekend pastime on the course grew into something close to a calling, and between football Sundays and days on the fairway, he found both joy and peace, along with the occasional colorful language that those around him came to expect and appreciate.
Above all else, Jim was a family man. He took pride in his children, found joy in his grandchildren, and valued the relationships he built over a lifetime. He showed up for people consistently, quietly, and without needing recognition.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his son James M. Jackson--grandchildren James Madding Jackson Jr, Chase Mott Jackson (great-grandson Thomas Richard Jackson), Caroline E.
