James (Jim) J Herold

James (Jim) J. Herold, aged 87, passed away on April 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on January 10, 1939, Jim dedicated many years of his life working for the DM&IR railroad before his retirement.
Jim was a hard-working, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 58 years,Cheryll; daughter, Cynthia and her husband Shawn McGovern; sons, Shawn and Michael; grandchildren, Jenna and Nate Haworth, Kyla and Joel Lindberg, James Merrill, and Curtis Herold; and great-grandchildren, Brecken, Elliott, Seija, and Avianna. Jim was preceded in death by his son Jimmy, brother Bob, sister Dolores, and his parents.
An avid pool player, Jim also cherished outdoor activities, including fishing trips with his wife, camping with family and friends, and tending to his farm and cows. His life was a testament to his love for his family and the simple pleasures of life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the hospice nurses for their exceptional care and support during Jims final months.
A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Town Hall, 3110 Strand Rd, Duluth, MN 55803, on May 2, 2026, from 12 to 3 PM.
