James "Jim" Jameel Mahfuz, 77, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts, after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Born on January 12, 1949, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jim lived a life of service and dedication to others.

Jim graduated from Boston College High School in 1967 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Catholic University of America. He later pursued a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work at Boston University. His education laid the foundation for a career marked by compassion and commitment to helping those in need.

In his early years, Jim served as a Carmelite brother and schoolteacher. This period of his life reflected his deep faith and desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. After completing his graduate studies, Jim became the Executive Director of a residential school for severely emotionally disturbed teenagers. In this role, he led his staff with dedication, supporting young individuals as they worked to overcome significant mental health challenges.

Jim's career continued with his role as Executive Director of The Family Center in Somerville, Massachusetts. There, he applied his therapeutic expertise and leadership skills to assist economically disadvantaged families in navigating complex obstacles. For over two decades following this chapter of his career, Jim maintained a private psychotherapy practice where he specialized in supporting couples, families, and trauma survivors. His devotion to his clients was unwavering, and he was known for his humor and ability to connect deeply with those he helped.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Linda Hart of Amesbury, Massachusetts; his daughter Nora Mahfuz of Aiken, South Carolina; his brothers Arthur Mahfuz and wife Linda Konnersman of Boston, Massachusetts; Geoffrey Mahfuz and wife Beverly of Dracut, Massachusetts; his sisters Clare Moss of Brunswick, Maine; Alice Brown and husband Gary of Melrose, Massachusetts; Mary McGrath of Portland, Oregon; as well as many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by Stephen Moss, the husband of Clare Moss, as well as his parents, Albert Mahfuz and Mary (McGrath) Mahfuz.

Throughout his life, Jim's faith remained an integral part of who he was. His early years as a Carmelite brother shaped the values that guided him through both personal and professional endeavors. Whether working with troubled youth or helping families heal from trauma, Jim's legacy is one of compassion and resilience.

May James "Jim" Jameel Mahfuz be remembered for the lives he touched and the love he shared. His memory will continue to bring comfort to all who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be held on April 19, 2026, at 09:30 AM at Incarnation Parish 429 Upham Street. Parking is in the rear of the church.
