James Cory Jordan

1986 - 2026

James Cory Jordan was born on August 24, 1986, at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana, to Irma Brown and Carl E. Jordan, Jr.

Dedicated to Christ as an infant, Cory confessed his belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of four and was baptized at New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.N. Reed.

Cory flourished in the Gary Public School System, attending Norton Elementary School before being accepted into Emerson School for Visual & Performing Arts, where he majored in vocal studies from sixth through twelfth grade. During his time there, he was inducted into the honor society and became actively involved in the Westside Theater Guild under the direction of Mark Spencer.

Following high school, Cory was accepted into Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where his passion for singing truly blossomed. He became a cherished member of the IU Soul Revue Choir. He proudly pledged Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in Fall 2006. He then enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, where he served with honor before receiving an honorable discharge. Upon returning home, Cory transferred his credits from Indiana University to Chicago State University, where he majored in public communication and earned his bachelor’s degree.

Driven by his love for music and theater, Cory moved to Brooklyn, New York, to pursue his dreams. His journey later took him to Los Angeles, California, where he secured a management position at Burke Williams Day Spa. Ever the adventurer, he traveled to London, England, to explore new opportunities. After returning to Los Angeles and with God’s guidance, he applied to United Airlines and was overjoyed to receive the call for flight attendant training. His love of travel had begun at the tender age of four, when he would fly alone to Los Angeles—and now, he had finally received his wings.

Throughout his life, Cory was vibrant and engaged in school, church, and his community. He cherished his family and friends and had an extraordinary gift for bringing life into every room with his infectious laughter and radiant smile that will forever be remembered.

After a brief illness, God called Cory home on Friday, January 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Carl E. Jordan, Sr. and Margaret Crockett; maternal grandfather Johnny Mack Brown; maternal great-grandparents Clarence and Irma Lee Brown; and great-grandmother Bessie Mae Mabon.

Cory leaves to cherish his precious memory: his mother, Irma Brown (Paul) Gowder; father, Carl (Shannon) Jordan, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Willette Brown Strange; siblings Cortez (Maryana) Sims of Merrillville, Indiana; Kendall (Camille) James of New Jersey; Jessica, Sierra, Nia and Christian Jordan of Los Angeles, California; uncles Rodney T.
