James Cory Jordan was born at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana on August 24,1986 to Irma Brown and Carl E. Jordan Jr.
He was dedicated to Christ when he was an infant. At the age of four years, he confessed his belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.N. Reed.
Cory completed his education in the Gary Public School System. He attended Norton Elementary School and was accepted into Emerson Visual Performance Art majoring in vocal from sixth grade to twelfth grade. Cory was inducted into the honor society and involved in the Westside Theater Guild under the direction of Mark Spencer.
After High school he was accepted into Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Cory passion was singing. While at Indiana University Bloomington he became a member of the IU Soul Revue Choir. He also pledged and was inducted into the fall 2006 Kappa Alapa Phi Fraternity. He enlisted into the Navy and was stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois where he received an honorable discharge. After returning home from the Navy Cory transferred his college credits from Indiana University to Chicago State University where he majored in public communication and received a bachelor's degree from there.
Cory moved to Brooklynn, New York to pursue his career in music and theater. After leaving New York he relocated to Los Angeles, California where he secured a management position at Burke Williams Day Spa. He traveled to London, England exploring further opportunities. He returned to LA and continued to work with God's guiding and applied to United Airlines INC. and receiving the call for steward training. He was so elated to secure a position with the airlines. He fell in love with traveling when he would fly alone to LA at the tender age of four and that when he received his wings.
Cory was very active in school, church and community. He loved his family and friends and always brought life into a room with his laughter and smile that will always be remembered.
After a brief illness God called Cory home on Friday, January 9, 2026. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Carl E. Jordan Sr., and Margaret Crockett, maternal grandfather Johnny Mack Brown, maternal great grandparents Clarence (Irma Lee) Brown and great grandmother Bessie Mae Mabon.
Cory leaves to cherish his memories his mother Irma Brown (Paul) Gowder; father Carl (Shannon) Jordan Jr.; maternal grandmother Willette Brown Strange, sibling Cortez (Maryana) Sims of Merrillville, Indiana; Kendall (Camille) James of New Jersey; Jessica, Sierra, Nia all of Los Angeles, California and Christian Jordan of Los Angeles, California; uncles Rodney T. Brown Sr. of Merrillville, Indiana; Vincent (Latrice) of Atlanta, Geogia; stepmom Shaun Peace of Los Angeles, California; Godmother Brenda Gaffney Moye of Merrillville, Indiana; aunts Wanda, Nicole, Frankie and Peaches Lenor; great aunts and Shellie B. and a host of first cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Visitation Friday, January 23, 2026, from 12:00 noon- 8:00 p.m. with family hours from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue Gary, Indiana. Funeral Service Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church 1917 Carolina Street Gary, Indiana 46407. Pastor W.N. Reed officiating.
