We are saddened to share the passing of James R. Loftis Sr., at the age of 100 in Annapolis, MD. Lovingly known as "Jimmy," he was the devoted husband of more than sixty years to the late Virginia "Ginny" (née Monaghan) Loftis—his soulmate in life and now again in heaven.
Jimmy was the proud father of James (Jackie Evans), the late Paul (Patricia), Tim (Carsen), Judy, Carol Brooks, and Jeanne Barr (Timothy); grandfather to James, Casey, Jordan, Mackenzie, Jessie, Cole, Ethan, Griffin, Anthony, Curt, Laney, Payton, and Tess; and great-grandfather to Myla and Riley.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Joseph Patrick and Mary (Horan) Loftis, Jimmy demonstrated a strong work ethic at an early age which eventually led to a successful career, applying his keen intelligence, abundant charm and optimism, coupled with an ability to identify and seize opportunities. He acquired and founded successful companies in the retail and food service industry.
His energy and zest for life were contagious, leading him to form lasting friendships among a wide range of individuals, ranging from captains of industry to everyday people, all of whom he liked to refer to as "good people."
Jimmy fell in love with the game of golf at an early age and his affection continued as a joyful obsession throughout his life. He was a member of Orchard Park, Onondaga and Gator Creek country clubs. He pursued the sport playing courses throughout the US, Scotland, Ireland and Europe.
His deep faith sustained him throughout life, especially after the loss of Ginny. She was largely responsible for raising their young children as he pursued his business interests. Later his steady presence helped guide their children into adulthood and careers. The family made their home in East Aurora, NY, as well as Manlius, NY and Longboat Key, FL.
Although he is dearly missed by the many who loved him, his time on earth will be celebrated as a life well lived.
A private family service will be held in honor of Jimmy's life. Expressions of sympathy in the form of cards and memorial contributions to Feed The Children are equally welcome.
