James Domenic Mancuso, 94, of Parker, Colorado, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025.
Born in Hibbing, Minnesota, James—known to family and friends simply as Jim—embraced a life of curiosity, intellect, and adventure. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and went on to receive a Master's degree in Geology and Mining Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines.
Jim built an extraordinary career as an exploration geologist, a profession that took him and his young family across the United States—sometimes twice within a single school year. He loved being in the field and discovered great joy in the rugged landscapes and scientific puzzles that defined his work. He eventually joined Exxon and later Chevron, where he finished his professional career as the head of worldwide mineral exploration.
In retirement, Jim refused to slow down. He founded a consulting company with former colleagues, continuing to offer geological and geophysical expertise to companies and individual prospectors. His dedication to his profession was lifelong, driven not by obligation but by genuine passion.
Jim was a loving father, husband, brother, and uncle. He was smart, principled, and a man of strong integrity. He loved golf, and after many decades apart, he and his brothers reunited in the 1980s on a golf outing that blossomed into an annual tradition at Lake Tahoe. Those cherished trips with his sons, brothers, and nephews became an important part of his later life.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage; his eldest son, Michael; his parents; and his brothers, Domenic and Joseph.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Ann; five sons, Joseph, James, Dennis, John, and Patrick; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to share in his remarkable life.
Funeral service details will be announced at a later date.
