James Nagy

1939 - 2026

James Imre Nagy, 86, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Born on May 19, 1939, in Bakonszeg, Hungary, James lived a remarkable life filled with dedication to his family, career, and community.

James immigrated to the United States as a young man and proudly served his adopted country in the United States Air Force. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his life.

Professionally, James built a distinguished career as an insurance professional. He was widely regarded as an expert in asbestos cases and also worked as an agent for vehicle insurance. His expertise and professionalism earned him respect among his peers and clients alike.

James was deeply devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Josephine "Jo" Nagy. Together, they created a warm and loving home where they raised their three children: Julie Nagy; Steve Nagy (Dori); and Greg Nagy (Suzanne). James was also a proud grandfather—affectionately known as "Papa"—to John, Hannah, Sean, Anna Reid, Aidan, Isabel, and Fiona. Family outings were a cornerstone of James's life; he cherished every opportunity to travel with his loved ones. Whether it was a day trip, weekend getaway, or journey to Europe, James embraced these moments wholeheartedly.

James had a passion for bringing people together. He and Jo were known for hosting memorable dinner parties that reflected their warmth and hospitality.

He was also an active and leading member of the Hungarian community for many years. James contributed his time and energy to the Hungarian Club of Chicago, church events, Hungarian cultural functions, and the lively summer picnics that celebrated their shared heritage. He was always ready to help members of the community, especially newly arrived immigrants.

James's legacy is one of love, dedication, and service—to his family, his community, and his country. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. A Memorial Service will be held on June 13, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 03:00 PM at International Banquet by Toscana 1863 W Central Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60005.
